Goal:

The purpose of assembling this collection of personal spiritual journeys is to inspire those who still suffer with substance abuse and/or lack of faith, to open their hearts and minds to the idea of a “Power Greater Than Themselves”. Our sincere hope is to provide an access point to a path of spiritual growth by providing a large cross-section of experiences and belief structures from people who have overcome these difficulties.

Writing Prompt:

We would like to have essays describing the evolution of your spiritual experience. We are interested specifically in the details of your transformation/evolution of faith. It may include as much or as little of your story of recovery as you feel comfortable with, though for many of us the two stories are one and the same.  These essays should not be directions on how a person should find God, but rather a chronicle of how you did. I would like the authors to place a heavy emphasis on their feelings during this journey. We believe people have difficulty understanding their feelings and may find it helpful have others identify their own. There is no minimum or maximum length requirement.

For those who are nervous about their writing skills:

If you would find it helpful, we are willing to help with refining your rough thoughts and in constructing your essay. We are by no means a professional writers, but an extra set of eyes is always a good practice. After our review of your work and perhaps a little “tweaking”, we will return it to you for approval. This is your story, not ours after all.

 Some questions to think about in preparation for writing your essay:

• What was your early experience with GOD?
• What feelings, if any, kept you away from GOD? (fear, shame, pride, etc.)
• How has your faith grown and/or evolved through time?
• Describe the stages of this development?
• What challenges or prejudices with faith did you face?
• How did/does GOD reveal himself to you?
• What events and/or “signs’ have you witnessed?
• How do you demonstrate faith? How would you like to improve?
• What is your current relationship with GOD?
• What mountains have been moved?
• How would you describe GOD?
